I read this beauty of a play as part of school, and I have yet to see the actual play (but I can guarantee you I will see the play in person some time)

The Ferryman is an Irish play based during the times of the Troubles. Think of the family from Derry Girls, but on steroids (in the best way possible). It features love, a huge family atmosphere. and a whole load of threatening and violence (both talked about and in action).

One of the things I truly love and appreciate about this play, as an Irish person, is how you can fully sense the Irish atmosphere and customs through the words, and shows the darker side of regular family living during the time of the Troubles, and how it is hard to escape a life you used to live.

I'm not going to go into the pros and cons of this as I usually do when reviewing, as since its a play, it doesn't really feel fair.

If you don't enjoy reading stage directions and background scene setting, skip out of this read. This play also features strong use of bad language and features tons of violence and alcohol, and family conflict and drama. However, I would recommend this play as I found it funny, endearing, shocking and highly entertaining.
