4.5 stars, again, surprised on how much I enjoyed this, especially the ending, which was masterfully done. King is a great writer, this isn’t something I’d usually be into, but overall very good writing

really enjoyed this story, very different from most of his other books. I found the mc interesting, loved Alice & found the ending sad but perfect. I wish there wasn't so much detail on the story he was writing, I felt it really slowed down the book & didn't add anything
medium-paced
Mostly uninteresting. I thought the war background was cliche, the mob and hitman detail was caricature. The "dumb self" was laughably corny. The story never goes in a direction you don't see coming; it has nothing to offer. Sure, you don't anticipate Alice, but Billy's actions aren't a surprise, and her arrival barely complicates matters. Am I supposed to feel stressed for him? He's not interesting. For this to work, Billy needs a lot more going on then "I'm a nice enough guy who just wants to be paid to kill bad guys and go home."
All my favorite Stephen King stories are bananas. You can chalk this up to me waiting for something exciting to happen, but I was shocked how two-dimensional I found these characters and how cheesy the action and dialogue, given the mostly positive reviews.

King writes a “one last job” novel and makes it both poetic and beautiful. We all know that when hit men sign up for “one last job” things don’t ever go as planned. I fell in love with Billy Summers and will be thinking about him for years to come.
