One or the best books of 2016
Lately I haven't read anything that has jumped out at me and truly pulled me into it's world, well this book accomplished all of that. Ashley Elston tells a remarkable story. It was gritty, raw and intense. There were twists and turns that I never saw coming. The relationship between Shep and Katie was perfection. I loved Elston's other books so at this point I'm pretty sure Ashley Elston can do no wrong.

4.5 stars. This story gripped me from the beginning. A good ol' fashioned mystery told from a young point of view. I guess it started to lose steam towards the end. When I found out who the killer was, I wasn't really shocked? The end just seemed flat in my opinion.

This was a quick read for me, I appreciated the author's ability to keep the stake high without creating another issue that the characters would have to solve (which sometimes can feel like prolonging the story for the sake of more pages). While the source material takes place in high school, I still appreciated the mystery and how the book is set up between the different POVs.

A trite and shallow excuse for a mystery. None of the suspects have any distinguishing characteristics and any clues we're given are too vague to identify or even imply any one of them. The number of times our leads say "but that could have been any of them!" is too frustrating for words. It just gives off the feeling that the author doesn't know how to provide real meaningful clues without giving the game away. Reading this felt like the author had at one point read The Secret History, thought "hey I could do that!" and then proceeded not to do anything of the things that make that story compelling.

I am in the minority here but this didn't work for me. I found it to be predictable and choppy.
