I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by the writer as I loved her writing. The setting, plot, and characters were all brilliantly written and felt very real, which helped make reading it a more immersive experience. I loved the inclusion of history and folklore in the plot, and how these were beautifully weaved into the story.

Up from 3.5 stars.

A bit Kate Morton-esque in tone. The characters were well-written, but Jack’s seemed off to me. The way he told his story at the end was off-putting and odd. Almost too much happened in the last 30 pages.

This is a lovely, if a bit conventional, Gothic romance/mystery that uses Cornish myth and lore beautifully. I loved the exploration of the white hare and the White Lady, purported to be an ancient deity in the area. The characters were complex and interesting, and grew over the course of the novel. All of the bits of archaeology, plant-lore, and magic came neatly together. This should be a hit with readers of all kinds--romance readers, history buffs, Gothic fans, you name it. Readers who like Kate Morton's books or those by Diane Setterfield will love it.

“Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.”
This book is like a collaboration between Daphne du Maurier and Alan Garner. I thought it might be a horror/ghost story but it veers away from that in favour of a romantic conclusion which was a little too neatly wrapped up for my taste.
However, I liked the writing and the scene setting. The author says that this is not her usual style which is a shame as I would happily read more like this
