I've started typing and then deleted the bones of about five different reviews. Maybe it is the caffeine. Maybe I shouldn't try to do this literally minutes after finishing the book. Who knows?

I'll cut to the chase--I said last year's Sandman Slim novel was the best in a long time. This one topped it. By a wide margin. I'm not sure why I didn't give it five stars. Consider it 4 and 7/8ths.

I'm not going to say much else. I suppose, in a way, this would be kind of an OK entry point to the series if you wanted to start reading somewhere other than the beginning . But I'd start at the very beginning. I heard in a movie that it is a very good place to start.

My 2nd favorite of the entire series. The first book being the other. Great series all around

this was a mostly fun read and a nice return after some of the last few books in the series have been dragging for me. part of it was seeing so many old characters again, and part of it was Stark being on his own and very vincible. the stakes seemed higher, and I also like the character more when he's out and about than when he's mooning over his love interest (towards the end of the book there's a lot of that*). I really like the concept of him having to deal with problems he can't solve by hitting something. at the same time, I find so many of the characters kind of annoying?? they're very twee and precious in an anti-establishment, literally monsters kind of way. so him sitting around talking to them isn't my fav.

*also, as his body literally decays, he still appears to be irresistible to women.

I really enjoyed the emotion of this book. Stark is brought back from the dead by a necromancer who works for Stark’s enemy. A deal is made but will each party hold up their end of the deal? Stark has to save the world again in order to be brought all the way back to life. He struggles with his emotions, wondering if his friends will want him back after he has been dead for a year when all he thinks he brings is death and mayhem to the table.
Kadrey is able to pull off another unique plot in the tenth book in this series.
