Don't know much about podcasting, other than listening to them. This book is an interesting look at the steps involved with putting one together, understanding the interplay between editing producing and creating, and reviewing the solid basis for what people expect from a podcast. The writing is personal and accessible and the style of the book is perfect for podcasting, in the sense that there's short blurbs that are usually digestible.

I read hundreds of non-fiction books a year because I love to learn about interesting topics, so I started The Rewired Soul podcast where I interview authors about their books. It’s been taking off faster than expected, and although I’ve been a content creator for a while now, I don’t know much about the podcast space. I grabbed this book because NPR has been doing audio content right for a long time, so I wanted to learn from some of the best. This book has just about everything you need to know about starting, improving, and marketing a podcast, so it definitely delivers on the title. I also think they did a pretty good job speaking to small, independent creators as well as companies who may want to create a podcast for some more brand visibility. Although I received a ton of a value from this book, I will say that a lot of the information was very remedial, but that’s only because I personally have some experience already. Regardless, there are plenty of chapters in here where I was taking notes about conducting better interviews, marketing, and other strategies to fine-tune my podcast, so I do recommend this book for people of all levels in the podcast space.

This book was probably the only way I would have completed the StoryGraph 2023 Challenge to read a book about start-ups.

I found this very interesting and sprinkled with humor (which surprised me). I listened to it and loved hearing all the different experts give advice as well as understand first-hand the “p-pop” sounds and whatnot.

It’s been a nugget of an idea to start a podcast, a thought almost everyone has in their life, probably. And as anyone who has ever tried anything, I didn’t realise exactly how much went into making one. Yes, I knew there’d be editing and marketing and planning and whatnot, but this book went into some deep details that would probably get overlooked. So if you’re someone who is interested in having a podcast, this is a great source to start!

NPR's start up podcast guide is a good resource to make sure you're thinking of every aspect of your soon-to-be podcast! Some advice is only applicable if you're going to producing a specific style of podcast, but for the most part it does a great job going over everything (podcasts are a broad subject!). It was also written with humor, which I really appreciated- often guides like this one are soooo dry and the humor made it much more engaging.

I used this book as more of a reference guide rather than a cover-to-cover read.
