I think it's pretty realistic with the efforts made to retrieve Mark and it's frustrating. I mean, of course it's fiction but I could see it. The money, the time, the minds invested to save a man on mars... but what about global healthcare, education, combating famine and climate change ?

Nerdy, funny, entertaining. It's a refreshing take on space travel/adventure/scifi, though I can't comment on how accurate the science is.
I love Mark Watney. The author did a good job of making him feel real. Reading this was like reading about one of my nerdy friends getting trapped on Mars. Some people may not appreciate the humor or rough language, but for me it made this book an experience. Add to this the fact that this crazy man talked about farming in space with (as far as my vaguely remembered horticultural background goes)accurate soil science. I'm a little jealous that this fictional character could get potatoes to produce better than my last potato project, but that is beside the point. I loved the book. I would really like to know what happened after the book ends, and I'm hoping the author writes more either of this story, or others.
This book was so moving! Mark is funny and shockingly relatable (for a super botanist/science genius). His perspective is written so interestingly and you can’t help but root for him the entire time. I laughed, I cried, I felt real fear and joy. Just everything I could want in a book about space and human resiliency. Time to watch the movie again!

Such a fantastic book. If you like sci fi and have not read this book, you need to change thay ASAP. I found the voice of Mark in particular to he so unique and interesting to listen to. Absolutely a fantastic book I read it in 2 days because I just couldn't put it down
