A very solid retelling of the hardships and camaraderie gained that the E Company of the 506th Airborne Division, US Army experienced during World War Two. It made me very nostalgic in remembering the one and only time my paternal grandfather talked to me about his experience in the war-he slept on crates of apples in Belgium because they were softer than the dirt. (I do not rate non-fiction or memoirs)

I've watched the HBO series based on the book at least five times so most of the information in the book was not new to me. But I was waiting for a book I had ordered to arrive and needed something to read.
The book was well written and interesting. I enjoyed the story of the truly courageous and inspiring men who left their lives as young adults to fight for the freedom of others. Ambrose is a thorough researcher and has a knack for writing about the battles.
Now, I've got to watch the movies again.

You know how they say show, don’t tell, there was a lot of telling in this book and it was kind of disappointing.
