I have to admit, I was tempted to read this because of the movie adaptation. I'm not a hipster in this situation.

I greatly enjoyed this book, and I will more than likely pick up the next installment. The perspective of Jacob is so relatable to a true young man. He had the grit of a young man on budding adulthood, yet still strapped down to being a child. I'm sure we all remember that feeling all too well.

The vintage photos were a nice touch, but in some instances I thought it took away from the author's ability to show instead of tell traits about the characters. For example, it felt slightly lazy; like maybe he didn't have to truly describe the characters since the pictures did that for him.

I did enjoy this book, nonetheless, but it felt like it could have been longer. So much of it was exposition, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I will continue on and recommend it to others.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children is very unique and peculiar .
Looking at the cover it may give you the idea that it's a horror story ... but it's not .
Is it creepy ? Yes .
scary ? mm No .
what I loved the most about it that it's illustrated with creepy and unsettling old pictures . At some point reading the story I had to open the curtains to remind myself that it's shinny and happy outside , because I was so into the world .
The story wouldn't have been the same without them .
I feel like I should give Qiurk Books publishers big thumbs up for their fantastic job .
As much as I loved and enjoyed reading I had tiny issues with it , but I still will recommend it .
Seriously read it people .

Reread
Still fun and magical!

first time reading
The first time I read this book was in high school, when I was browsing through the school's library in search for something I hadn't read before. And then I came across this book, purely by accident. The cover immediately grabbed me- what a creepy, eerie picture for a young adult fantasy book! I was so pleasantly surprised with the story, and the pictures stayed with me for a long time. Just the feeling of finding something like that at an unexpected time was such a nice experience. I never got to reading the next books in the series though, I really still want to continue it.
Also, the movie by Tim Burton was a HUGE disappointment. Man, I expected better from one of my favorite artists in film.

3.5 out of 5 stars.
i wanted to give this 3/5 stars at first then towards the end of the book it got so much better n i did cry a lil bit cause of the farewell that happened there.i'd been reading this abt weeks but i kept on putting it down-it was quite dull n nothing much happened n it put me into a very fortnight reading slump then yesterday i was truly determined to finish this n yeahh i finally did.i adored the few last chapters,i understand that this is the first book so many things need to be explained n i got it.this book was quite dark(the monsters) n kinda gave me goosebumps once.i don't like how romance between emma n jacob works idk i dont find it necessary, prefer to be focus on friendships/fam more.bronwyn, olive n fiona are my queens love em.n ransom riggs is such a brilliant author how could he made stories by using peculiar photograps-maddd

Meh. Didn't finish before it was due back to the library. Didn't feel like it was a big loss to not finish, never really got sucked in.
