What a phenomenal end to the trilogy. It truly lives up to the expectations raised by the first two books. I'm blown away by how far the sense of scale increased and maintained momentum throughout this book. From the writing, to the characters, to the cool fantasy concepts so complex that they dip into scifi territory, to the absolutely heartwrenching messages of responsibility of innovation, and connectedness with other people, this is just an incredible book. I liked how all of the threads were tied up, and I wouldn't have wanted it to end any other way.
Also I just want to add a brief note about how much I appreciate all the women in this book. The majority of the main characters are women, and Bennett does a great job of including sapphic romance between two characters that have been together for years but are still greatly in love.

A disappointing ending to what was a really strong start. I just couldn't get in to this one. The seven year jump between books 2 and 3 meant that a lot had happened and changed with the world, and there was too much info-dumping and catching up on lore for it to be a good time. I also felt the character development and interactions, strong points of the first two books, were really lacking here. I was also just confused about what was going on some of the time as far as twinning and scriving and otherworldly doors. Glad I pushed through to the end but not positive I understood what happened. I missed the heists and banter of the first book.

DID NOT FINISH: 30%

Really didn’t vibe with this one, feeling a bit of fomo not finishing the series but it just isn’t for me

My problems are with the structure and story rather than the characters. (FWIW, I liked Orso the best.) I liked scriving and the lexicons. But I didn't understand the magic system or motivation of the Maker/Creator. I am praying for the Giant Meteor anyway so it seemed like a restart was a good idea.

There was too much magic for me to track what was going on. It seemed like the characters just invented a new technique without there being background to make it seem concrete.

I've read all Bennet's books except Mr. Shivers. These 3 seemed the most hand-wavy.

My feelings are too contradictory on too many aspects of the book.

Some parts were mind-bogling and yet underwhelming. And some inherent and unusually casual.

And still it was fun.(And sad. Definitely sad.)
