I really did like the exploration of dopamine as a future-oriented chemical, however, the last 50 percent was a slog to go through, it becomes so repetitive, and we continue to be hounded by the same ideas - again and again.
A fascinating read about how the molecule dopamine drives our decisions about romance, food, drugs, careers, and even creativity.
Entertaining and informative, the neuroscience in the book is simplified into easy-to-digest concepts and applications (though some of the reviews argue it’s a bit oversimplified).
I enjoyed learning more about how our brains work and why people make the decisions they do. From addiction, to political parties, to the correlation between creative individuals and mental health issues, dopamine plays a part in all of it. I made a plethora of highlights throughout this book and feel like I even gained a little better understanding of myself, too.
Towards the end, it got both a bit redundant and anti-climatic, but overall - an engrossing nonfiction pick!
✨ This book is for you if: you’re interested in neuroscience or human behavior

This book made me question everything I’ve ever enjoyed.
Very interesting read. A lot of this I do remember from psychology classes in HS and college so this was fun to think about

Super informative and engaging read on how our brain works and where motivation comes from. In a way it’s self-help, while also being a science textbook, while also telling a story about how to understand other humans. I would recommend to any person, but especially people in the mental health field.
