Oh that Poirot is such a clever chap. I love the Scooby Doo moment during the reveal. Of course Agatha came before Scooby. :) Interesting mystery and coverup. Had me fooled!

Very unexpected ending! Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, I was especially surprised on who the murderer(s) was.
A beach holiday turned murder mystery that surprisingly made for a very relaxing read. In this Poirot novel we again find ourselves amongst a cast of many characters; ranging from a harmonious American couple, to a love-struck fool, to our unfortunately drop-dread gorgeous victim.
We find out little about our corpse while she’s still alive. Just beautiful imagery of her silhouette and the idle gossip and jealousy of all who get a glimpse of her. Her death brings us into the mystery of unraveling who she really is and who had the motive to murder her.
Solving this mystery involves little running about and not much excitement through the story, but the overtly gossipy nature of the tale makes one giddy to hear what everyone has to say. This is done excellently so with Agatha Christie’s superb skills at writing dialogue. Much of the time is spent with our characters sitting about just chatting about their thoughts, their theories, and their ideals but there was hardly a dull moment through it.
The ending, however, I felt a little lackluster. I was certainly surprised by the reveal of the culprit, but it all felt rather thrown together. Despite the analogy Poirot put out about fitting jigsaw pieces together, it felt more like splashing paint onto a canvas. It was done and solved before I knew it, with little insight into the culprit and their motive. Though I did quite like how the moral of this story fits both the victim and the culprit - do not judge a book by it’s cover.

Een diva/mannen verslindster wordt dood terug gevonden op het 'pirateneiland'. Is het de man, de minnaar of toch iemand anders? Terecht een van Agatha 's aangenamere werken.

Mrs. Gardener's infinite monologues were definitely a highlight for me. Did not guess the solution (but that is unsurprising).

Really good until the last chapter, and especially the last page. I can see why it’s not as popular as other AC books, even though it starts out very similarly.
