I really enjoyed the story and Charis‰ЫЄs perseverance in the face of suffering and her triumph over the Puritan theology of the time but the prose was awkward and clunky. The first chapter was way too long and stuck out like a sore thumb. Overall, the fairy tale like nature of the story is compelling but poorly executed.

This book mostly felt like a flourish of words with no real depth. There were some parts where I couldn’t put the book down but the majority I was forcing myself through. I also found the MC insufferable even though im sure she was mean to be inspiring.
