I’m going to have to sit with this one for a loooong time, revisit it, let its powerful message sink deep. I can feel the ways I’m indoctrinated into colonial-capitalist-white supremacist-property driven grind culture. Making my 2023 motto a reminder to this end: “don’t just do something, sit there”. Slowing down and doing less, resting more, finding the radical resistance of this in all of its simplicity and apparent luxury. Being willing to stay with the discomfort of NOT acting.

This is was a wonderful reminder that I AM ENOUGH in book form and I loved the poems, womanist and other black scholarship used to support her thesis to REST and get free from grind culture and capitalism. This is one of best self-help books I have ever read because it is someone who looks like me, a black woman telling me her story and also encouraging me that I can make it too. DOWN WITH GRIND CULTURE! REST!

Love the message of this book, and I think it's a good stepping stone into unlearning some of the habits we've been raised to consider normal, but I only wish that the ideas in the book had been expanded on more. The chapters felt pretty repetitive and didn't dive super deep. The conceptual, abstract sections were very interesting and I wish there had been more of that rather than the repeated reminder to look inwards.

Highly recommend this book. Due to a recent illness I've had to rest, and during those times a part of me felt the urge to try to do something. Hersey's book came at the right time for me. This book is one I will reread. Very insightful.

"You are enough simply by being alive."
