Why didn't I love this book? I'm not sure. I would definitely recommend it to children, but when it comes to this kind of fantasy, sometimes I love it (The Last Dragonslayer, The Phantom Tollbooth, for examples), but this one just annoyed me. It is part of a discussion group I will be attending in a few days. maybe I will walk away from that with greater appreciation!

This book has been a solid favourite of mine since I was about 9 years old. It's magical, whimsical and reminds you never to let your imagination die. It certainly allows your imagination to go wherever it wants to as well, doesn't force a box around the world that the characters explore. I'm now reading this book to my children and remembering the important lessons it taught me, and it's inspiring to see my kids have the same experience reading it as I did. This will always truly have a special place in my heart.

Sort of a cross between The Wizard of Oz & Mary Poppins. Of course, I adore the author & wanted to read this because of her. I appreciate that Lindy does not like broccoli.
