Fun(ny) fact(s): As Anna and I have been working on a new LEGO set from FB marketplace, this seemed like a fun, random read on the history of one of our favorite toys.

Favorite quote/image: Kjeld: "The Danish phrase is 'Det bedste er ikke for godt,' literally, 'The best is not too good,'...usually translated as 'Only the best is good enough.'  For me personally, the words have always been a reminder that no matter what you have done and what you have achieved, you must never stop innovating.  That, to me, is the truest interpretation of Granddad's motto.  Never forget to be creative and innovative!" (pg. 356)

Honorable mention: GKC (in a New Year's/farewell speech to his father): "We all know that this company was born during a time of great struggle and adversity, and that its motto has always been 'Pray and work.'"

Why: Although a bit long-winded (which you can also describe as detailed) at times, Andersen takes us decade by decade through LEGO's history, from its humble wooden beginnings, through wars, fires, economic crises, and transitions, to the global phenomenon that has revolutionized play even today.  This account is thoroughly well-researched with many insider interviews with the Kristiansen family, but I would probably not recommend unless you were already interested in the history of LEGO.

This book can really be slow in parts. But if you are a fan of Lego, it’s a great read.
