Libby audio. My least favorite of the “trilogy”.

The best thing about this book was that it was based on real people. The story was disjointed at times (ie Eliza in mourning because she can’t get over her husbands death while she’s also falling in love with Merrel). And how did no one in the entire village realize that Varinka’s new toddler was really Sofya’s child?!?! Even the house servants????? It doesn’t make sense.

The ending was good, but it was a hard read.

It started a little slow as you were trying to figure out who was who, but once the story took off, I couldn’t put the book down!! It was very good. See below for more info that has spoilers:

I want to know what happened with Taras and Mamka, I really liked her!

A slow start , but then I went back to refresh myself on the Lilac Girls. This picked up for me about a third of the way in, then I couldn’t put it down!

Maybe it’s because I listened to this book instead of reading it, but I liked Lilac Girls a whole lot more than Lost Roses. The timeline was confusing for me, especially not knowing a lot about the Bolsheviks in general, and I felt like the passage of time was played out weirdly (especially in Russia). Worth the listen but not as good as its counterpart!

Three women Varinka(Russian peasant girl), Eliza ( American supporting Russian women in America) and Sofya( a cousin to the Romanovs) and their intertwined stories during WWI.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I thought Lilac Girls was good. Another incredible story of 3 strong women. I can't wait to read her next book.
