Reading Grisham has been on my list for some time and what better than to start with his first novel, The Firm. I’ve seen the film hundreds of times - it’s a classic in my childhood household - so I knew the story. Frankly, the book was a bit of a let down. It was a slog and took me forever to get through; at a certain point I felt like I was reading just to finish, not because I actually wanted to. It’s an interesting story, but probably about 200 pages too long. It also doesn’t age super well in terms of some language. The movie is so good and came out in 1993 so in a way the book was destined to never be as good as the book - a rare feat. I’d like to give A Time to Kill and The Client a try but I think I’m gonna need a little break from Mr. Grisham.
I had long loved the movie, having watched it multiple times, so I was curious whether the book would be similarly awesome. It mostly was. I was pleasantly surprised at how faithful to the book the movie was. The book was a real page-turner, keeping me buzzing through it all weekend. My only complaint at all was the ending was a tad weak compared to the rest of the book.

wowwwwwwwwwweeeee so much better than the movie- surprise, i know. but honestly the second half of the book was completely different than the movie, so i was still hanging on the edge of my seat because i didn't know what the heck was going to happen!
i haven't read grisham before and i was a little wary to do so. i read this book so fast i didn't have time to put it on goodreads, though, so i'm a definite fan! mitch and his wife abby are sucked into a crazy life in memphis and i was immediately sucked into the story.
you should know something will happen when the job offer and life seem too good to be true...can't wait for my next grisham read!

2.5 ⭐️ I didn’t have high expectations for this, and hoped it would be a fun read. It was just ok, and at least 100 pages too long. The descriptions of women were cringey at best, misogynistic at worst.
