Although I can understand some of the other reviews being less rated because of the romance or characters or Cody herself, it was the depth in how I truly FELT something that made it a total 5 star winner for me. Being someone who dealt and still deals with depression, Meg hit home. And not only her, but Alice, Cody, Ben, Harry, Stoner, hell even Tree hit home with how (some not even not knowing her) they still felt something and even more felt something about not noticing the signs. And that reaches miles to an audience who thinks people will feel nothing. I sobbed--not cried--snot-nose sobbed the last fifth of the book. My heart broke, and kept breaking. For Cody, for Meg, for her parents. For myself. Truly a beautiful story in the telling of a horrible (but to-date and happening) topic.

I gave this four stars because I'm a fan of gayle forman and it was great for her. However, if this is your first forman book, then I would give it three. It's a good, quick read but predictable for the most part. I'm not quite sure it it accomplishes much with its plot. There's a physical journey but I'm not sure it was necessary. Forman used her typical meek-turned-brave heroine to deliver her story along with the brooding rock star love interest. It's another in her repertoire but not a book I'd recommend on its own if you're wanting to start her libraries.

3.5 stars

I Was Here didn't hit me as much as Where She Went and Just One Day did but I still can't find myself to rate this anything lower than three stars so 3.5 it is. It could either be because I'm a bit biased towards my love for Gayle Forman or it could just be the writing. Her writing evokes all the emotions and never fails to draw me every single time. Gayle Forman may be a witch guys or -- oohh -- a fairy (?!?) but either way she's got me under her spell.

Once again this book came into my life at the right time. Back in 2014 I was a 19 year old battling through depression and suicidal thoughts. This book saved my life at the time. Fast forward to the last few months, I'm 22 years of age and once again, battling with depression and my mental thoughts going places I do not want to think about. I Was Here kept calling out to me. So I decided to re-read it. And I am so glad I did because it's saved me again.

It's not cured my bout of depression, but it's helped me place my thoughts in more positive aspects. I'm no longer questioning my reason on living or ending my life. This is just a start.

I cannot fathom just how incredible this book was. Gayle Forman has become my favourite author of 2014, all 4 books I've read by her I have loved and this one was no different. I related to the issues in this book because I have personally suffered with Depression and also attempted suicide at a younger age and as someone who has been through the dark places, I can definitely say that Gayle Foreman was on point with every emotion in this book. She simply cannot do anything wrong!

I actually thought this was a really good story about learning to let go and figuring out what to do when you lose someone. There were faults with the story and Kody is hardly likable, but that's part of what works.

It was definitely something to read and I enjoyed it, however, I feel there could have been so much more! So much mystery to explore and yet it was void of the latter.

A Very Heavy Topic

This book was an amazing read. The topic is very real and I love when a book touches on real life issues. This book follows a girl named Cody who's friend Meg committed suicide. In this story you will see the struggles that Cody faces after the event of Meg's death. This book kept me reading and had me wondering what it was that led Meg to take her own life. I am a bit confused by the love interest in this book. It didn't seem to be necessary to the story but I'm not quite sure if it is a bad thing. Overall I highly enjoyed it. An easy 4 star book.
