This book didn’t entirely surprise me, yet that precisely was its brilliance — the way the pieces fell into place and there was no question that this was exactly how the story needed to be told.

The reason I decided against a full 5.0 rating is that I found it odd that in her 300 years and with such a curiosity of languages, Addie's nine languages were all romantic or germanic languages. She hadn't learnt any Asian or African languages, even though she lived in New York, which has had a sizeable immigrant community for a long, long time.

I wanted to like this story, especially because the writing is so beautiful.  The words, and scenes are a cross between poetry and art.

It is the ultimate manic pixie dream girl vs depressive demon nightmare boy, I felt it was trying too hard and was somehow ¿oversaturated?

I was so excited when I found out Addie LaRue was going to be a book of the month, so maybe I fed into the hype a little bit too much but this just didn’t live up to my probably too high expectations.  I expected to be captured in an exciting story with high adventure and high stakes.  What I got instead was a slow meandering story that nothing ever changed so the stakes were fairly low through 3/4 of the book.  I will say I really enjoyed the last 20% of this book.  All of a sudden I was super attached to Henry and found myself wishing he was the main character in the story since I no longer was worried about Addie at all.

I guess I wish we had built more empathy for the characters within the story.  This definitely does not read as a romance and is much more like a time travel fantasy (though not really travel - but takes place across lots of different times in history).  The writing is very good and evocative of what the author was trying to get across in the themes I just think the pacing was off for me.  Not enough happened at the beginning and then so much was shoved in the end of this book.  I read this one with a mix of the physical and audio and I do think that helped.  I enjoyed the audio book much more than physically reading the first half of the book but I did follow along a lot towards the end.  If you got this one through BOTM I would definitely recommend trying to pick it up on audio through your library to pair with it.  This one is getting 4 stars from me mostly based off the ending - it was very good!

I really liked this book, it took me more time than I thought to finished it, but it was an enjoyable reading, the story for me was incredible, I would just liked it more if there was more diversity with the people Addie met, and the places she stayed. But overall I think everything is great and I definitely recommend this book :)

I give it a 4.5, just the lack of poc and other places bugged me.

The beginning of this book was so slow. Honestly, I was kind of bored through most of it. The premise was really interesting but I just wasn’t as invested as I thought I would be when I was actually reading it. I did really like the theme of this book. It has a lot of inspiring quotes. I like the way the author dealt with themes of loneliness and wanting to be remembered.
