Gets a little repetitive. There was something missing from the story. It needed another element to focus on sometimes instead of the constant back and forth of will they/won't they

Not my favorite of Hill's. Had a hard time connecting with the characters and the conflict and resolution didn't land right for me.

I liked this story and have yet to find one of Gerri Hill’s that I don’t. The setting sounds amazing and I’m planning a trip there based solely on this story. I wished there was an epilogue.

Note to self: Stop picking up Gerri Hill romance books just because Abby Craden narrated them.
If there's a card that allows us to unread something, I would probably use it for this. I haven't had a 1-star read in a while... It's possible that those I DNF would've been a 1-star, but this was a short 6-hr audiobook so I just listened to it at 2x speed in pain.

I hate the plot. I hate the characters. I hate the logic. I hate the morality in this book. The only thing that I liked was when Kate reasoned the whole 30th birthday is technically the start of your 31st year, and that will be the only logic I stand by.
Spoiler
"And you are probably the first woman I've met who rounds up her age, not down."
"Well, when my birthday hits and they call me thirty-eight, I've actually successfully completed thirty-eight years and I'm working on number thirty-nine." She shrugged. "So technically, I guess I could say I'm nearly thirty-nine."
Lee practically slammed on her brakes. "What?
You're thirty- seven but you're technically thirty-nine?"
Kate smiled. "Well, it's simple math, Lee. When you're born, they don't call you zero, they wait until you've completed your first year, then say you're one." Lee stared, her mouth opened. "So, you're saying, if someone is twenty-nine, about to be thirty, when their actual birthday comes, and they think they're thirty, they've really already done thirty, they're already starting on freakin' thirty-one!" she said, her voice loud.
It was Kate's turn to stare. "Yeah," she said slowly.
"Doesn't take a rocket scientist." she murmured.
"So if someone's having a crisis over turning thirty, they should have had their damn crisis at twenty-eight, not twenty-nine!" She leaned her head back. "Good God."
Kate smiled, then laughed. When Lee rolled her head toward her, Kate laughed harder. "Let me guess. You're about to turn thirty?"
Lee smiled, then started the Jeep again. "I thought I was about to turn thirty, yes. Apparently, I'm starting on freakin' thirty-one.
"Well, if it's any consolation, I never would have guessed you to be thirty."
"And why's that? My boyish good looks?" she teased.
"Maybe it's the age of the women you date. The little girl the other day couldn't have even been eighteen."
"Eighteen? No, she was a junior in college. Perfectly legal. And how do you know about who I date? What in the world has Brenda been telling you?"
Just that you have a penchant for young blonds, mostly tourists, mostly straight."
Lee laughed. "Well, they do tend to have more stamina."

Spoiler Kate is a hater. She's so judgemental and somehow reasons that she's queer therefore she has to be open-minded. YET, she was judging everyone. Kate was likable at first for me, I didn't mind the whole player thing - she was upfront and careful so you do you girl. But then she brought up the whole butch-femme thing and like what??? Then I remembered that this is a Gerri Hill book, published in 2006, which means there will be something offensive from the main character *sigh* ... The background characters were quirky but it was fine... until they became nosy and started forcing Kate and Lee together because *DESTINY SAID SO* .... oh okay (*Side eyed*). Then there was the "GF" who's basically trading sex/relationship for a place to live?? That's what I got from that 2-year-living-together relationship. Then the whole "Oh, I just assumed you also see other people too"... TOO?? I- ... Woman, what do you mean too?? And that somehow cleared Kate's infidelity since they were never exclusive. But that didn't erase the fact that I felt icky when Kate and Lee first kissed, then kissed again, then f*cked, then basically made love. I felt grossed out so much by how the whole relationship played out. Maybe if I liked them and their relationship better, it could've been saved. But Kate and Lee didn't cutely banter, they legit threw insults and underhanded comments at each other. And individually, I didn't like them... so this book was just a big red flag NO for me.

Overall, I will pretend that this book doesn't exist. If you want to read about quirky old ladies trying to get two queer women together, read Alexander Robin's books. In fact, I'll read one of her books next to cleanse my mind. Even if you don't want the quirky old ladies, most of her romance books are good-feeling and funny.

Really sweet, but too short. But maybe that's me.
