“Sometimes, the scars are what make us who we are.”

Okay, so a little less rapey than the first book but the fact that Elena thinks most men want to fuck her or kill her (or both) gets a little tiresome. Also, I skipped most of the sex scenes (we get it, Elena, he makes you horny ALL the time!) as they were pretty repetitive and boring. I did enjoy this storyline better than the first book, although I did think a bigger deal would’ve been made over Elena coming face to face with the man of her nightmares. Illium continues to be my favourite. I don’t think I originally read enough of this series to get to his book but I’m determined to get there this time around. ETA: just realized the yet-to-be-released book will be about Illium and Aodhan! Yay!!

I love the world the author has built - an alternate version of New York where angels create vampires and rule like fae. The MCs, Elena and Raphael, are one of my fave literary couples now! I love how their relationship evolves in this book. They are both strong but flawed. They both contribute to the relationship and care about making the other one better. They are equally jealous, which is silly after all they’ve been through, but I’ll allow it because I adore them. Plus Raphael hits all my book bae requirements and then some!

Illium must be protected at all costs. I'm making this a new law. Please obey or risk my wrath :)
