This. BOOK.

The Book of Tea Duology by @judyilinauthor is so exceptionally and beautifully written. I can’t praise these two books enough.

Pros:
⭐️The world building!
⭐️The ties to traditional myth and real world tradition that made the fantasy novel feel more like historical fiction
⭐️The character growth for everyone over the two books
⭐️NO LOOSE ENDS
⭐️The Duology left me wanting more of Ning and Kang’s story.

Cons:
⭐️Honestly? That the series isn’t longer. I would have loved more of this world, but I do feel like the length of the Duology was perfect for the story that was told.

I really enjoyed the first book and started reading this one right after just because I couldn’t stop thinking about the story and the characters. The descriptions are beautiful too even though the magic is not quite as detailed as in the fist book and overall I liked the pacing and mixing if POVs, magic, reality and the building up to the end BUT the final part was honestly disappointing. The battle felt rushed and it made all my expectation for the big moment kind of pointless. Everything was beautiful and while I missed some aspects from the first books (the aforementioned detailing, many of the characters I had already grown to love and the chemistry between Ning and Kang) I understood the changes and embraced the new part of this adventure. However, the lack of a proper climax, an actual battle or something along those lines left me with and empty feeling. That was a hell of a deus ex machina tbh.
