fence: rise is a very fencing-heavy volume big on the action and techniques that - as pacat's always able to do in this series - are explained in a simple yet effective way that even a plebe like me can understand; i enjoy continuing to learn more abt the sport here.

and as usual, there's quite a lot of humor to be found, esp in characters and their interactions + dynamics. the new characters introduced here def spice things up, but i wish we had some more down time w/ the king's row boys and learn at least a lil more abt them as individuals, tho i like how they're developing both separately and tgt, esp seiji and nicholas' relationship.

as for the art, i give big props to johanna the mad for the characters' designs and fluid, sense of movement. nothing ever seems even a bit awkward and it all comes off very natural, almost effortless. i esp like how theyre able to adeptly depict both the action on the piste and the characters' facial expressions, which are always varied and dynamied given the range of characters and personalities. overall, this is an enjoyable volume to the series and i hope the next one comes out sooner than later. the slow burn's def flicking me in the head tho.
