The story and the artwork were more coherent in this volume, and I'm a big fan of what happens with the sheriff's wife. A solid entry.

In the words of Dr. Clayton Forrester, "Decidedly un-bold."
I read this after being underwhelmed by the movie, and was duly underwhelmed by the source material. I feel like there really is something to this idea, but neither iteration captured it.
The art here was unusual enough to draw my interest, but ultimately I found it undermined the story by being too confusing.
Good idea, interesting art, but not realized in any medium to its full potential.

The art style wasn't my favorite but I like the story. Maybe I'll continue in the future.

This volume contains issue #1-3. I read #1 in 2018. At that point I had seen the movie three or four times and wanted to see how it compares. I liked the artwork right away, although it is quite different from the more classically drawn comics I usually read and liked before this. I liked the colours as well, the mix of greys with pastel tones. Nicely drawn bloodshed, almost poetic.
So, re-read and continuation it is, finally. The setting is Barrow in Alaska and the sun has just set for the last time before a stretch of 30 days without sunlight. Great opportunity for a bunch of vampires to go all out…
Some of the visuals reminded me of the TV adaptation of The Strain (never read it). Which was really yucky. Anyway, back to Barrow… bloodshed, a lot of it. And some panels that were hard to figure out, because it was only night, grey snow and lots of red. Not a lot of plot, we basically wallow in the visuals of the town‘s inhabitants being slaughtered. I think I liked the movie more. It felt like more of a story.

Still, I am tempted to see what happens next…

i know i keep saying i won't read another graphic novel but this one practically jumped into my arms at the library today. i LOVE this movie so i decided to check out the original source.
i have to say that this is a great graphic novel. the art is unique and has this interesting combination of detailed and blurry mixed into one. there is plenty of gore and tons of blood so i was happy about that. these are some evil, fanged, killing machines!
its strange but i like the movie even more now that i read this. whoever wrote the screenplay really added some great extras to the story which propel Eben to make the ultimate sacrifice. i'm extra excited because at comic con they announced that the sequel has been greenlighted.
one more thing. the action words in the story are awesome! for example, when eban punches his fist through vicente's head the word "kaspulchh" is shown with showers of blood. some other good ones: slurrpk, spulch, spluchk and boofchk
oh and i never get tired of hearing a vampire say, "bite me."

I found this graphic novel in many lists as a "must-read horror comic", so I decided to give a chance. Despite not being my cup of tea, I found "30 days of Night" kinda entertaining.
“The climate of Barrow is Arctic. Temperatures range from cold as shit to fucking freezing.”

Set in Barrow in cold Alaska, in a period when the sun doesn't shine for thirty days, this town will have to stand not only the harsh blizzard but also the invasion of a vampire horde. The protagonist, the town's Sheriff, is the only chance to deliver his town from this invasion.

The story itself is short and simple. It reminisces the typical post-apocalyptic but with Vampires.
I enjoyed the design and artwork. Its textures are appealing and give a sense of fog and darkness.
Bloody, mysterious, dark and enigmatic, I recommend this horror story to any fan of the genre.
Rating: 3.3/5 Stars
