I saw the movie first so the big twist at the end wasn't a surprise but it was still a really good story: really, really creepy. If it were me, I'd just become one of the vampire/zombie/things.

I am a huge fan of vampires and the brutal violent way they are portrayed in these novels is fresh and exciting in comparison with the lame way they have been romanticised lately. I adore Ben Templesmith as an artist and think he is amazing at creating the most terrifying looking monsters in these novels. The storyline is interesting and I was instantly attracted to the plot. The story is set in Barrow, Alaska right on the cusp of the sun setting for a whole month! As you can imagine this is a dream come true for the vamps. These books are highly addictive and worth spending the money on. :D

I liked this a lot better than the movie.

I looooove this series. Whee!

Couldn't even be bothered to read the last of the three tales. Bored :(

Boring.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

I was enamored by the 30 Days of Night movie in high school. I recently decided to rewatch the movie to see if it lived up to the hype. The vampires did...but not much else. I feel like similar things can be said for this graphic novel. The art is great and the vampire depictions are really cool (although interestingly, I think I prefer the movie here), but I vastly prefer this version of Stella. We don't get a lot of character development because it's so short but the solid bones of the story are here. I feel like they chose violence over plot in nearly every instance, and I filled in the story with details from the movie. What I liked, I enjoyed enough to give the series another shot, but I'm personally going to need a lot more to read everything.

A short read, but packs a punch. It sets up a lot in its 104 pages. The art style really adds to the bleakness of it all.

This is the second comic in a row I’ve read where the cover art style is different from the actual contents and that annoys me to no end. I mean the art is great in this, it’s just not the cover!
Anyway, I enjoyed the story well enough and it made me really want to watch the movie again! It scared the pants off me and my husband when we watched it a decade ago.

I really loved the art style of this book, it was dark and disturbing yet also hauntingly beautiful. The story progressed very fast, and it was a super quick read, maybe too quick. I didn't understand the point of the mother and son from New Orleans, I thought their scenes added nothing to the plot or feeling of the piece, and unless the mother makes an appearance in the next volume their characters are annoyingly useless. I would have prefered more focus on townspeople and their developement.

Unless you want to enjoy some very interesting and cool art, this book is not a must read just watch the movie.
