The art is what really shines in this book. Really raw and sharp, setting the perfect mood for such a story. Excellent drawings and paintings.

The story felt a little rushed, but it was pretty unique. The art alone made it worth reading.

I will admit to a bit of nostalgia involved in the fourth star.

When this came out, [a:Ben Templesmith|24599|Ben Templesmith|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1359003359p2/24599.jpg]'s art was a revelation. No horror book looked like this. And as much as Steve Niles is now associated with comic book horror, Templesmith's art was the main attraction.

This book is two cool premises mostly realized, and a third cool premise that seemed tacked on and unexplored:

1.) A town in Alaska doesn't see sunlight for thirty days, so a a group of vampires descend on it.

2.) A group of older vampires fear that massacring this town will cause people to believe in vampires again, so they decide to go to war with the younger vampires.

I think, while the stories could definitely be fleshed out more in a longer series, that Niles got these two stories across satisfactorily. However,

3.) There is a clandestine group aware of vampires interested in exposing them to the outside world and eradicating them.

But we get very little info about the group, their plan sucks, and so it feels like this story was given very little thought.

While I agree with the reviews that say this could have easily been stretched out, and the characters given more depth, I thought there was enough here that I cared a bit for the characters and was always curious about what was going to happen next.

Is the pallete too dark? Absolutely. Even a year later, Templesmith probably would have made it at least slightly lighter. But it is supposed to be a month without sunlight.

I also appreciate that time is muddied in this book because, with no working electronics, and no sunlight, you don't know how long the story has been taking place until you reach the next sunrise at the end of the story.

Story was ok, really didn’t care for the art style.

The story was fine. I did not like the art style.

On the one hand I liked the idea of how the town has come to live with the threat. On the other, it's vampires with guns, people, come on. And obviously I missed something key by skipping a volume, as I'm not sure about this whole vampire/ghost (right, he's a ghost?) thing. Still, more "entertaining" than the original and a nice distraction.

Very beautiful art, can tell the movie will suck (ha ha). Not my typical graphic novel, but glad I finally read it. Highly recommended for horror fans.

Podríamos salvar la pequeña saga [b:30 Days of Night: Dead Space|27228629|30 Days of Night, Vol. 7 Dead Space|Steve Niles|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1445162118l/27228629._SY75_.jpg|47273198] y [b:30 Days of Night: Spreading the Disease #5|27222356|30 Days of Night Spreading the Disease #5|Dan Wickline|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1445053466l/27222356._SY75_.jpg|47265040] y poco más.
¡Que le vamos a hacer! Me ha dado por los vampiros.
