Yikes. Surface level commentary of basic ideas, maybe it would have been better if it was heavily abridged. Also, annoyingly, the author has this unrelenting need to validate himself as an authority because they once did a good job with market research

This book does a fantastic job breaking down examples of successful teams into what their common qualities and activities are. This is a must read for leaders!

The book is great, albeit a little bit too repetitive. The contents are divided into 3 chapters:
1. Why safety is the number one component for teamwork.
2. Share vulnerability to glue your team together.
3. How to design a purpose for your team.

It's quite good at making the arguments and giving you how-to-implement them at the end of every chapter. And I don't find he uses that many of SEAL's stories, like almost all other reviewers said. You'll find it here and there.

What I learned is that safety, vulnerabilities, and purpose will help your team perform at their best, but they are not a guarantee of success.

As an Asian from SEA, I feel the ideas are implementable; they make sense.

This book is fantastic because it offers a new lens through which to see group dynamics and personal interactions. Seeing interactions as a stream of signals that cue either feelings of belonging and vulnerability, or rejection and authority is eye-opening.

There are also numerous stories of companies succeeding by shifting their cultures to embrace these principles. And there are stories of groups failing when they let these principles slip.

There are also plenty of practical suggestions for how to work towards a high-functioning culture.

Overall, a very valuable book.
