Great read! (Thanks Ming for the recc :)
This book really stood out to me from the backdrop of typical 'wizard school' / harry potter trope.
I enjoyed the world building and magic system that still follows some of the basic principles of equity and sets up a clear distinction of 'good' vs 'evil' - but still allows for some gray areas. I love El and her sarcastic rudeness, and her internal struggle to remain within her moral principles. I'm not one for alot of teenage romance, but the begrudging friendship of El & Orion is fun to see as it progresses.
It took me about 1/3 of the book to get a full visual picture of Scholamance and how it worked in its chaotic way. I liked the background of the Enclaves and how realistic its history / elitism / capitalistic make up is for our reality today, and the division it creates. There's also a parallel in todays cutthroat corporate / social world as El has to constantly manipulate and examine every social interaction and appearance in terms of alliance building and survival.
There is great character development with El and her relationships, and how she maintains the integrity and compassion that her mother has instilled, while still struggling to balance her power and anger at injustice.
Definitely on the edge of my seat for the rest of the trilogy!

I loved this book. There was a huge amount of world building at the beginning but once you get through that part the plot is great fun. Cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

It's a nice quick listen. There's not a lot happening story wise, mainly just the FMC describing in detail how the has been ostracized her whole life and every possible occasion, which gets a bit much from time to time. Will probably listen to the next book though, as the ending makes the next storyline seem more interesting.

Best scene was El finding out that she was in fact dating Orion
