Is it really possible that I didn’t read any short story collections in 2015? This is a great one to rekindle an appreciation of short fiction, solid tales with a sense of humanity and a droll flavor. Read more on my booklog

Short story writing is an art form of itself and it seems McCracken might be a master. Each story contained was engrossing and complete and I couldn’t put the book down until I got to the final
line of the story I was reading.
An impressive collection with exceptional narration.

Fantastic. Sometimes funny, always smart, these stories share a common theme: loss. Not a cheery read by any means but wow, McCracken is a terrific writer, and her empathy for her characters is clear. 4 1/2 stars

Full disclosure: I received this book as a GoodReads Giveaway.
I really enjoy reading short story compilations, and this one was fine . I tend to like short stories because I can frequently pick them up, read a chapter, and come back a few days later to start something new. While this fits the requisite short story form, and has some expertly written lines, the wordsmithing was not quite enough to make me want to read in long intervals.

These stories just didn't catch me or hook me at all.
