This was a book i picked up pretty randomly (i needed to spend a couple more dollars to get free shipping lol) so my expectations weren’t super high, but this book far surpassed all my expectations. I love this book so much. It is insight into someone else’s life which is very different from my own, but who I also have a lot in common with. Also the soundtrack *perfection* (link to author’s playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2zGSIElgJ71byygvmACjGg?si=mK2WgYyPSIaEpvWh1QhJ8w )

The pacing was really off i feel like the author kind of had us jumping around. I also feel like some of the chapters were unnecessary (the short ones mostly) and I know it’s Morgan’s story (both the author and the character) but a lot of the characters didn’t get enough development for me to get invested in them. I so wish we could have learned more about Morgan’s family mostly. On the other hand I love Morgan (both the character and the author) I loved the character because her thoughts and feelings around depression were so real to me and I loved the author for her closing remarks at the end of the book :) she seemed like a real nice and cool lady

A heartwrenching story of a liberal young black woman living in a very religious, white, conservative suburb whilst learning to live with depression. Brilliantly written, with characters I just wanted to reach through the pages and hug. Highly recommend this one.
