Didn't enjoy this one as much second time around.
Although it's impossible not to love Einstein so I did enjoy it. I just struggled to stay interested.

I absolutely LOVED this book! I loved the characters and their development and how everything came together in the end! I can't believe I had never heard of this book before and I am so thankful for the challenge I am completing to have me ask for my mom's favorite book! I am always a little cautious about reading books with animals because I hate to read about them being hurt or dying but I had no problems with this one! I recommend it to any dog lover!

Koontz is a master story teller. His books tend to discuss the supernatural or beyond current science and this is no different. His characters tend to be somewhat predictable and maybe cliché and these are too.
these are not knocks. first and foremost he tells an interesting story and creates sympathetic heroes. he does it again here. a real page-turner. If you like his style, this is worth a read

How could I not love a novel that begins with a man finding a Golden Retriever while out hiking? I liked the twists and turns in Watchers and didn't want it to end. I listened to the audiobook and loved J. Charles' narration (especially his narration for Einstein).

I haven’t explored much of Dean Koontz’s writing, but when I saw this book listed on The Great American Read list, I was intrigued. Audible had some kind of sale, and there it was. This book I’d never heard of until recently. The Watchers, by Dean Koontz. I purchased the book and immediately began. While most summaries say that the story is about the people, Travis and Nora, I found it to be more about the dog, a genetically engineered Golden Retriever, Einstein.
Einstein saves both Travis, and Nora, and brings them together in a way that is usually saved for fairy tales. Einstein seems to know what the human needs before they realize its which adds to his charm.
While the majority of the story was a bit bland, it was interesting to learn just how smart Einstein is. All the while, we’re learning small things about the other genetically engineered animal, The Outsider. The Outsider is connected to Einstein and seems to resent the dog for being better liked. All in all, it was a very interesting book, with a neat premise, but I don’t know that I’ll be headed down the Dean Koontz wormhole again.
