No idea why this appeared on The Great American Read list of books not to be missed. Did this one on audio and despised the childish voice of the reader, which might have been part of the problem. Still, the basic story idea was pretty weak and got worse as things went along. I've only read two of his books... and this is the last.
Such a sweet, harrowing tale that will leave you thinking about the complexities of life and the human psyche.
I read this book when I was around thirteen years old and I remember that the arch with the monster gave me shivers. I was scared to read further yet devoured chapter after chapter. Looking back at it six years later, I can see that it’s not as good as I remember but it’s not a bad book, either.
To me, it has too many story arches and some of them are hard or not too interesting to follow, but the main two are quite well executed, the best character being, of course, Einstein.

Unlike most books that fit my typical taste! I did enjoy the writing style and the plot and the characters in this thriller page-turner. The golden retriever! A fun way to rest my brain from my usual historical fiction fare. I enjoyed the ride.
5/5 stars
It's hard to put into words how much I enjoyed this novel—hands down one of the best I've read. It is primarily a suspense novel but in addition tells a beautiful story of the relationship between a man and a woman, and most of all: a golden retriever. The nail-biting moments of suspense followed by moments of sheer happiness and love made for a rollercoaster of emotions felt by the reader.

Bro, it was so good for the first 200 pages. The hell happened.

I finally finished it!!!!
In the end, the concept was excellent.
I didn't like the language or graphic descriptions during some of the perspectives we got.
It also took me so long finish because it was scary and sad at times.
The ending was perfect and beautiful.
so yeah, 3 stars.

I think this was sort of the start of what would be his never ending trend towards have pretty much all of the below in a book, in one form or another:
1. Male hero, kind and caring but still buff!
2. Female hero, can do everything and then some, still cute though
3. Dog
4. Either mentally challenged human or super mentally enhanced something else!
The aliens came later.
Not his worst ever but maybe find one of the better ones to read first?
