Dear John is just more proof towards demonstrating how brilliant of a writer Nicholas Sparks really is. The bottom line here is if you loved all of Sparks' previous novels, you will most definitely enjoy the love story of an army sergeant on leave only to accidentally fall in love with a girl right before 9/11. He must choose between the girl he loves and the country he promised to serve. Another one of Sparks' love stories that have you praying for a happy ending, but only to be crushed by the ending that follows.

This novel is easy to read and so hard to put down. As you get deeper and more connected to the characters and their growing relationship, you can feel the happiness and pain they go through as the terrorist attacks caused the biggest impact on John Tyree and Savannah Curtis' lives. I could not stop flipping the pages trying to get to the end to see if I would stay smiling or end up with a tear stained face. As a memory novel, John is narrating the story to describe every emotion he felt when he began to fall in love with Savannah and how they were torn apart. You are John as you read from beginning to end experiencing the roller coaster of emotion he feels as his heart is broken in two. You'll only love Nicholas Sparks that much more with this book.

Not to mention the movie with Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried adding a nice romantic touch to a classic Sparks novel. Tears will roll down your cheeks with every turning page and each movie scene.

okay, this just made me angry. the movie, which is just an okay movie, is significantly better. they only knew each other for like 5 days and probably spent a month together at most over 2 years??? this is stupid. like come on. also, savannah and tim… like she so clearly settled and was not truly happy about it, yet will never leave him (or alan) because she’s too nice. that’s just sad, but also, i don’t even care because she was annoying. i swear she wasn’t that religious in the movie…

and really that one 9/11 line… i almost stopped reading. all of this was basically for nothing since they don’t end up together anyway. and i get why he did it, but like selling the coins… that’s your father’s legacy, dude… that made me angry.

Kind of your typical Nicholas Sparks novel. But he does have a niche, there’s no denying it. I did enjoy this book and I did cry lots of tears.

This book is a quick read, but totally worth every second of it. John is on leave from the marines when he meets Savannah. Two weeks is all it takes for them to fall in love, and its a great two weeks. But the book really gets going after the two weeks are over. Can John and Savannah's love survive in the midst of a war?
