This was so rough, real and beautiful, ohmygosh. I love Sloane Leong's art and have been following along on instagram as she teased details about the book. Her colors especially are so gorgeous, and she uses pink and yellow neons and other out of the box colors to highlight the emotional details in the girl's lives that might usually go unnoticed - like Coach Marisol noticing a mark on Jetta's neck, or to connect Ren's feelings about basketball to Luna's about surfacing. The character designs are INCREDIBLE; these girls feel like real teens especially in how they are drawn - realistic, different body types, clothing styles that feel familiar and accurate but are still varied - it's so so well done. These girls are dealing with serious, tough shit. Their lives are difficult, and that's not sugar coated. Their problems don't all get solved. What they find is the light in each other, the possibility of love and friendship that can carry them through. Absolutely beautiful.
