Nothing very different from my review of #1 just more of the same in a very good way. :) Please see my review of Volume 1.

Sandman is an awesome series. if you like Neil Gaiman's work, you will like this series. There are even hints at some of the central tenants of American Gods, which was neat as I've read that as well.

I love the tie-ins to his previous chapters and the bringing back of old characters. It's another set of well written installations to the series.

One of my all time favorite books. The Absolute editions are a bit bulky to read, but the re-done colors are totally worth it, and I ADORE the leather-bound covers and how heavy they are. It's like holding the world in your hands, in a way.

It took me so long to get around to finishing reading this compilation because the damn book is so cumbersome. These Absolute volumes look amazing, but they are an incredible pain in the ass to read.
Once upon a time, A Season of Mists was my favorite Sandman storyline and A Game of You was my least favorite. Returning to them as a much older man, I find that they have converged around a happy medium. They are both still fantastic, literally and qualitatively, but some of the glimmer is gone. They spoke to me more as a young man than they do to me now. My mild disappointment probably stims from the effect of coming to the work with the weight of expectation rather than the free thrill of discovery. If only we could experience our favorite works for the first time, over and over again.

I enjoy the world building a lot. Not as keen on how roughly the characters are treated, but that's personal preference. Also really enjoyed the fab build up to the hell confrontation but was a bit let down by the resolution. Some things haven't aged well - the flowers of romance will probably not make it to Netflix

This second mega volume of The Sandman, featuring 20 issues in one, is at points fantastic and at others simply good.

The two main arcs here, focused on Lucifer leaving hell and The Cuckoo, are incredibly well executed. It's the smaller surrounding chapters that are hit and miss for me. They are either meandering and repetitive, or insightful and disarming, but there is no real driving force taking us from one chapter to the next.

This is an excellent series overall, but Volume Two just isn't as consistent or as addictive as the first.
