I have avoided reading Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside because I was so disappointed with the lack of Anne in Anne of Ingleside. It's not that the stories about her children aren't cute or worth reading, but rather the underlying message that a middle-aged mother can have no adventures. But I'm very glad I gave this a try. Even though Anne is only ever "mother" or "Mrs. Doctor Dear" the story of being a teenage girl in Canada during World War I was still engaging once I accepted that this was not really an Anne book.

to chyba najpoważniejsza książka z serii (w poprzednich tomach też były poważne momenty, ale momenty), przez poruszenie I wojny światowej w końcu dostałam takie umiejscowienie tej opowieści i bohaterów na linii czasu. tak jak byliśmy wcześniej świadkami dojrzewania Ani (lub Anne) z niesfornej dziewczynki z ogromną wyobraźnią w mądrą młodą kobietę, a z czasem żonę i matkę, tak tutaj jesteśmy świadkami przyspieszonego dorastania jej najmłodszej córki Rilli spowodowanego wojną.
jeśli chodzi o serie to nie jest ona wyrównana, np. poprzedni tom nie podobał mi się, bo za mało było o Blythe'ach, a przydałoby się abyśmy mieli szansę bardziej ich poznać przed tym tomem. dobre zakończenie serii.

Last in the series of "Anne" books although Anne is very much in the background here. The action revolves around Anne's youngest child, the lisping teenaged Rilla. It's WW1 and the author takes us through every battle and campaign as she tracks the fates of the Blythe soldier sons. I found this to be a little tedious and I also hated the reprisal of kitten-drowning. Another thing worrisome about the entire series is the frequent mention of suicide!
All in all, I enjoyed the series although it was a bit disappointing to see that spunky Anne turned out to be a pampered, rather weak housewife. That seemed out of character to me, but probably more the norm during this time period than her being a career woman.

This book, and the rest of the series, knew how to break my heart-shatter it- and put it together again so perfectly. I loved it, despite my heart, I loved all the life lessons in it, and wish I could emulate them as well as the characters in my own life.

My favorite of the series. Have read it so many times that my copy from my middle school years, from the complete paperback series, has almost completely fallen apart, but I can't replace it. Love it so much.

100% the best one out of the kids' POV books. feel like it was written by a ghost writer? anyways i just didn't feel like reading this month LOL maybe it was because of the book, idrk

Gereğinden fazla uzun bir yolculuğun sonuna geldim. Anne yan karaktere dönüştükten sonra hiçbir ana karakterden keyif alamadım ve bu kitapta yazarın koyu milletçiliğiyle birleşen savaşın gölgesi kitabı beğenmemi zorlaştırdı. Sanırım yazar kitabı yazdığı dönemde birçok dile çevrilebileceğini hiç düşünmemiş. Savaş karşıtlığını kınayacak kadar kızmış olması beni güldürdü. Anne'i tüm kalbimle özleyeceğim ve ilk kitaplardaki bazı karakterleri ama diğer karakterler pek umrumda değil. Belki Walter umrumda olabilir o da sadece bir süreliğine nazik bir ruha sahip olmuş olmasından ötürü.
