I would gladly read this to a group of precocious children in little sweet suits and the like.
Read this with my kids. Love the illustrations and story line. Waaaaaay different than the musical. But to be expected lol!

This is one of those quintessential children's novels that deserve their long literary lives. It was utterly charming in a way that I'm sure many young kids love. This being said, I am not a young kid. I can acknowledge a book has genuine merit to other readers while not loving it myself. I didn't hate it, but it's simply not for me at this time in my life.

Read this book so many times as a child, and loved it every time.
I quite enjoyed the story itself but i listened to it on an apple books audiobook and whoever read it didn’t do a great job - lots of switching around of characters’ voices which was confusing and also the last chapters had a few bits of unintentional repetition in them - ended up listening on 1.5 speed to get through it
