Recommended by mom. this book ended up being surprisingly insightful on the origins of Zionism in the US and what it means to choose vs to have something chosen for you.

It is a book like this that makes reading such a pleasure.

The highest recommendation I can give is that all 15 members of our family, ages 10-72, read this book to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of its publication and the 50th anniversary of our marriage. It was enjoyed by one and all, with much fodder for discussion on every level. May it never go out of print and may recordings of it always be available.

wow.

Incredibly boring. Not much interesting about the book at all. I would prefer to sleep instead of read this.

Very interesting parallels to current politics surrounding the Middle East. Loveable characters and touching plot about friendship, family, and community.

Two sons. Two fathers. Two religious traditions. One baseball. Friendship. Love. Learning. Sight. Silence. Suffering. Against the backdrop of a world war, a genocide and the birth of modern Israel.

This book came at the right moment in my life. It was a comfort and a blessing. A beautiful story filled with religious and parental significance.
