Couple of high school kids discuss religious philosophy and psychology with each other and their dads. It's less exciting than it sounds.

reb potok…!! <3

I was blown away by this novel. Potok has such a gift for taking complex ideas and making them very accessible. I also loved learning about the Jewish culture through the novel.

This felt like a fantasy novel in the sense that it pulls you into a world that doesn’t exist, except that it does. There are dusty books, there is exciting scholarly and athletic competition between gifted pupils with strange wardrobes, and there is push-and-pull fireworks between science/religion and mind/soul. But yet, there is no need for a portal closet or a mirrored map of Europe with a cute genre name, because all this magic is the actual human experience of a small Hasidic community in Brooklyn. Wizardry.

I believe this is the 3rd read of this book. It is simply wonderful. A book about two fathers and their sons, coming of age in the 40s. What I wouldn't give to have the Jewish education, the burning desire to learn. Alas, I believe with my heart and soul in Jesus.

Truly one of the best books ever written.

You are missing out on LIFE if you don't read this.
