I finished The Chosen. I feel like I have to drag myself back to reality. That's how good it was. There are simply no words to justify how great and special this book is. I loved it and I can see myself reading this book over and over again. I felt that towards the end there were so many things left unresolved and I was yearning for more. Thank God there is a sequel. Also, this was the first book that I genuinely felt that the end is just the beginning to everything. There is truly no book like this. I loved it so much.
I read this my sophomore year of high school and I reread it this past year. It's a beautifully written novel and I love the dynamic between Danny and Reuven. Whatever my English teacher said, I really think Danny and Reuven had something going on.
An amazing look at the devotion of the Jews living in New York. Read in 2000

Awesome book, but starts a bit slow. What is the best way to live a life? Removed from modernity, in the ancient tradition of your people? A life of science, withy the goal of expanding practical knowledge? A life spent exploring spiritual knowledge? Now that Pandora's box (psychology) is opened, how should we think about Talmud interpretation? Are we really discovering providence's will, or merely exposing our own previously unexamined beliefs? Is there a difference?

gentle, introspective and deceptively simple-worded. beautiful friendship between two main characters. slightly slow paced, and feel very confused about the ending. taught me a lot about orthodox jews in america. characters are very well written, but this is very much a book about people not plot, because not a lot happens.
