The Pale Horse by Agatha Christie

This feels a lot different than your typical Agatha Christie. First, it has a somewhat more somber atmosphere than some of her others, with a lot of supernatural trappings. If you trust Agatha Christie as a writer, though (and I do), you know she's going to pilot you out of those waters eventually and land you on the shore of solid fact. Still, your mileage may vary as to whether you'll want to read this kind of thing or not. There was a scene towards the end that I basically skipped over because I just wasn't comfortable with it.
Second, although there IS a twist, I would say it's of secondary importance. The real crux of the plot is not who, but how.
I do love the inclusion of Ariadne Oliver, however! She--a sort of stand-in for Agatha herself?--provided some much needed lightness and occasional comic relief.

This started off slow, but I became fully engrossed in this mystery! And the twist at the end totally surprised me.

I was honestly bowled over by this. It's so interesting the pacing, the murders, the dark magic, all of it just perfectly told. The storyline while taking a little to get going is wonderfully atmospheric and I immediately wanted to know what was going on with the witchy ladies and Venables and the strange deaths.
I worked out some bits of the ending but not all which in my opinion is the perfect feeling an ending of a mystery book can give you. Satisfied cause you figured some of it out but also surprised because some of it got past you. Love it love it love it. A new all-time favourite 💕

It was a little slower than I like, it took a few chapters to really get into it, but over all I enjoyed the book. The plot was good and I had theories going through my head the whole book.
