Terrible story! Terrible intentions! Terrible book! Sure the writing was okay, and it is essential if you truly want to dig into how the war with The Covenant started, but--UGH! I couldn't stand it! Definately not my favorite!!

The overall plot was interesting and there was some decent (for a Halo book) character development. However, unlike the previous novels, this one was boring. There was virtually no action until the last 100 pages, and by the time anything remotely entertaining happened, I was so bored, I didn't care. Super disappointed, because I remember loving the first three books despite their flaws.

It's not bad. It's even okay; I particularly liked the origin of the cutters, the peace gifts and the romance between the AIs. But ultimately, there's not enough time given to the political aspects of the decisions made, and I don't think the ruling class could turn around that quickly to destroy humanity.
