I absolutely loved this book as soon as I picked it up. I was invested right at the beginning by Nora's voice and the intensity. I loved the drama of franken-friends and the relationships and then BAM bank robbery. This was high stakes the entire time and I was on the edge of my seat. I seriously didn't want to put it down.

The best part of this book in my opinion is how well the author incorporates the flashbacks of Nora's past with the present day. It all flows so smoothly and keeps you furiously turning pages the whole time! I loved it.  Also the found family aspect is *chef's kiss*.

Also, the author, Tess Sharpe, narrates the audiobook and it is amazing and I definitely recommend!

This book was a must read for because of who wrote it. Tess Sharpe wrote Far From You, the first queer book, the first thriller I ever picked up, and when I saw that she had written another, I knew I needed it in my possession. And it lived up to my expectations. This book had me on edge the entire time I was reading it because well, I loved the characters so much and I didn't want any of them to die. It also had me smiling at the flawless way she wrote Wes and Nora's friendship, and the even more flawless way she wrote the relationship between Iris and Nora, because break-ups and secrets and abusive fathers can make writing relationships very difficult and somehow Tess Sharpe wrote it perfectly. Not to mention how perfectly written Nora's character was written, with her messy past and even messier ongoing identity crisis.

Pros: Found family trope, amazing writing, lovable (if morally grey) protagonists, and the best bank hostage story I have ever read or watched.

Cons: None

Additional Content Warnings: hostage situation, blackmail

I really enjoyed this book, and read it in the space of about 24 hours. It wasn't the heist book I was expecting, but I loved it nonetheless. I think the writing was incredible and really drew me in, along with the great characters. I definitely think there were areas within the book that could have been covered in more detail, but I don't think the book was lacking because of it.

I read this book in one sitting, literally only stopping to answer the door before I returned to it. It's a tense YA about finding out who you are when your whole life has been about hiding.
Nora is a great character and her struggle with who she is because of the multiple people her mother forced her to be is really well told. She is Samantha and Hayley and Ashely, and the others. She is Nora and Natalie and has manage to piece herself together inch by inch until she is able to stand on her own two feet and begin to deal with the demons in her past.
As much as this story is about escaping from a bank robbery it's more about how you deal with trauma and abuse.

I'm very glad I Ipicked this up! I don't read many thrillers and I've been wanting to expand my horizons, but at the same time I knew I wanted something that was less...grimdark adult and HeterosexualTM. So when I heard about this - a queer YA thriller about a girl who's not who she says she is, trapped in a bank during a bank robbery with her ex boyfriend and her new girlfriend - I was instantly intrigued.

I loved pretty much everything about this book. The pacing of both plot strands (the present in the bank, the past unravelling of Nora) was perfect and wove together very well. I'm a character-driven reader rather than plot driven (which is a big part of why I don't usually read thrillers, those I've picked up in the past have relied on cheap cliffhangers and explosions to keep the tension going, while not building the characters up at all) so this was perfect for me. I wanted to care about the characters and I did. The bank robbery plot was fairly irrelevant, serving as a plot device to give us Nora's backstory and further her development today, and that was...well, perfect. Exactly what I wanted.

It's a quick read, fast-paced and flowing. The only reason why I didn't read it in one sitting is because I wanted to make it last.

It IS a dark book, however. Nora was raised by a grifter mother and is a con artist herself, she's lived through domestic violence and sexual assault, and five years after she got out she's struggling to define herself and who to trust. there are no punches pulled.

3.5/5 stars.

TW: Mental illness, murder, abuse, sexual abuse + assault
etc.

I heard good things about this from boston reads over on youtube. Granted they hadn’t finished the book yet but had definitely sold me on it.

Nora; Rebecca, Samantha, Katie, Haley and Ashley.
Nora has had the life that anyone would love to read, to learn and to gossip about, but would never want to live for themselves. Her entire life was five different roller coasters that didn’t come down until the sixth mile mark.

Nora is gay (bisexual), strong, and furious but she is most  importantly, herself. Throughout the entire book Nora struggles with who she is, what her identity is and if she’ll ever find who she is destined to be.

Although there are many other things to mention about this book like her mother, Abby, her stepdad Raymond, her girlfriend Iris, her sister Lee and her-ex boyfriend turned best friend Wes, it doesn’t truly need to be mentioned. Why? Because this is a book about a girl that did not have a normal life, a childhood or even an identity. It is about abuse (i.e. physical, mental + sexual abuse) mental illness, conning, murder, mystery and everything that can come with the life of being a con-artist. Of being raises by one and as one.

!!TW!!: I definitely recommend this book but just be wary of all the trigger warnings. Make sure to do your research beforehand. There is no on page sexual abuse, assault or molestation but it can still be triggering.

Is this really just a three in a half star read? I haven’t written a review like this in awhile so that’s gotta say something about the book.
