I grew up reading Maisy the mouse and now work in a library. This is one of my favorite children's books. It's so cute!

So apparently Maisy's library doesn't use the Dewey Decimal System?? Also, the continuity of this story is minimal (I think the cartoon is better than the books, as far as Maisy goes). But I do enjoy that the circulation clerk is a peacock. And the art style is still charming. For the smallest readers, this is a good pick-- but for anyone older than 4, the story is a bit too loose.

Read this to one of my nieces over the weekend. She wanted to know why her library doesn’t have a fish tank, and got very upset when I told her most libraries don’t actually arrange books by what visual clues exist in their buildings (we decided Maisy must have a special animal library), but love the drawings and the attempt at making libraries more fun for kids.

The Maisy books always have charming illustrations, but the story quality varies widely. This installment doesn't have much of a plot, and just showcases the different things Maisy's library has to offer. The downside of this is that every library system is different, and this book could just make kids feel disappointed that their library doesn't have an aquarium. I passed this up for storytime because of the specifics that don't fit my context.
The concept of going to the library is too common. All Maisy did was discover a library and its resources. Her friends join her for story time and they walk out happy. I like original ideas in books where the characters discover books that come alive, or gets sucked into library books. I like books where characters in libraries are told to quiet down or a misshap happens to books on shelves. There is really no plot located at the end of the story. The story also mentions that characters can listen to music there, but it does not mention movies.
