I'll reread in a couple years and see where I stand with it. I didn't enjoy his writing style as much as I thought I would. In chapter one it's very nice and he does lots of clever jumps from thought to thought, and I like reading from an anxious child perspective much more than the adolescent hyperconfident perspective he uses later. I think I need to know more about the contemporary Irish political world to appreciate the environment of the novel. The side characters in the later chapters are endearing, but chapters 2 and 3 were such a slog to get through that it soured the book for me from then onwards. His descriptions of theatre and poetry are very nice, but I do wish Joyce really developed Daedalus' love arc beyond the more unreal/symbolic love in the abstract he has for the girl.

It jumped around so much. That is the first thing that came to mind. It jumped around so much I didn’t know what was going on at times..

Well, at least I can say that I've read it. Generally not my cuppa tea though.

Joyce is a master of the English language and one of the greatest writers to live. This is his most personal book, and one of the books that influenced me the most.

A gorgeous, musical book. I love Joyce, and even more when it’s an audiobook.
