Oliver is not out to his family, so he gets misgendered and dead named by characters regularly. He is never misgendered by the narrative.samanthakayla's review against another edition

'most ardently' unfortunately takes away every ounce of nuance in the original story and replaces it with "well, he's trans" -- oliver is a bit of an intolerable protagonist what with his constant 'well im a boy so how dare they be misogynistic' while turning around and ignoring or degrading all the women in his life himself. darcy is a shell of his former character as all his interesting depth is replaced with a cute little 18 year old whose just closeted and shy and that's why he hates women guys its ok (why were the characters aged down. hello.). very unrealistic-- while i was obviously willing to elevate my suspension of disbelief based around the trans protagonist, the ending worked out in such a way that even i was like.. okay come on now lol. very modern voice that doesn't fit with the period story it's trying to tell. every side character is reduced to a single personality trait that doesn't do them justice. had a potential story to tell but i just dont think it was as successful as it could've been in its execution
tldr: guys straight people are okay. just read 'pride and prejudice'
