I loved this book. I finished the entire novel in a day thanks to our power going out, but I think I would have just kept reading even if it hadn’t. The book is so intricately written, and the characters are so flawed and so humanly written that to anyone will be drawn in. The plot moves so fast. There are a thousand twists and turns that will keep you guessing to the very end, and leave you wanting so much more.

This story is a lie. My advice to you: Do not ignore the title.

This book was absolutely wow. I mean, granted, YA is my favourite genre, but still this book, being a YA thriller still read more like a YA psychological thriller. And it was wow. Did I already say that? I'm sorry.

As you can see, this book has been a shock. I loved loved loved it. It had action, it had adventure, it was exciting, scary, intense—as in, nail-bitingly intense—all at the same time.

The characters were superbly created, with with a million flaws and many good qualities too.

All in all, it was a thriller, mind-boggling read, and I'd definitely recommend you to read it!

Received advanced reader copy from publisher via Baker & Taylor book supplier

Peter is a math genius that has such bad anxiety that he suffers from extreme panic attacks. With the help of his scientist mother and twin sister, he is able to manage it enough to struggle through the days and try to live his life. But, when is mother is nearly assassinated and his sister goes missing, Pete has to use his tremendous analytical skills to find his sister and try to find out why his mother was nearly killed, all while trying to keep a handle on his panic attacks.

For some reason, I love books with unreliable narrators. When the advanced copy of This Story Is Not a Lie appeared in my most recent box delivery, I knew I’d read this one. And, usually, I try to read books in the month before they publish so that I can help create buzz about the title. But I just could not wait until July to read this!

So: This statement is a lie or This statement is a lie unprovable. “you can’t prove it, because proving it true proves it is false. …” (p. 237) Did all that make your head spin? It did mine! And I already was spinning violently because of all the mathematics Pete was using! Now, I am the first one to say, I loved math in school but school was a long time ago for me. I don’t use much math beyond the basics in my life; so, much of what Pete said in the math area went flying over my head. But it didn’t matter. It added the psychological thriller aspect and aren’t psych thrillers all about messing with your mind?!

This was a genius story. And I got to the end and went “Oh man! You have got to be kidding me!”
SpoilerSo was Ingrid real? Or a figment of Pete’s imagination? I was lazy and didn’t want to go back and do some re-reading to try to figure it out … anyone have an opinion?

Definitely not middle school, but I know some students who would love the plot twists in this!

This book will definitely screw with your mind. Follow genetically engineered twins Peter and Bel, as their world is turned upside down and inside out. One is afraid of their own shadow, the other is a rage filled murderer. Polar opposites and inseparable, willing to kill and die for each other.

Based around the theory that drove Godël mad, the unsolvable equation, where to prove something true means that it is false. This book will have you second guessing right up until the end.

Will Peter and Bel ever find out the truth? Hard to know, after all, This Story is a Lie....
