No one does it quite like Michael McDowell. McDowell is to Deep South as king is to Maine.

Though Blackwater remains my favorite, this has an awesome dose of vengeance more than the others I’ve read

Bit of a mixed bag. McDowell's atmospheric writing is captivating, but the story itself lacks the desired mystery and suspense. The supernatural elements, while initially intriguing, feel a bit overdone. Overall, it's worth a read if you enjoy southern gothic, but don't expect a mind-blowing mystery.

More brutal than I initially thought! Mr. Mcdowell does it again, giving the readers equal atmosphere, horror, and cruelty. A definite recommendation for those interested in getting into his works.
