This followed but didn't seem to feel obligated to stick to the usual formula, which was really refreshing. An ally got hurt! Stephanie almost died and not because of her own incompetence! Even Lula wasn't totally incompetent this time! The hackers were interesting and fun new characters too. It was oddly a relief to have some actual character development, even if it wasn't in Stephanie's idiotic love life.
Not quite as funny as the others in this series but still a worthwhile quick read that doesn’t require a lot of concentration.
I enjoy reading the Stephanie Plum books - they never fail to make me laugh, and I got several laughs out of Game On. It's always nice to visit Stephanie & see what sort of craziness is happening in her life and the lives of her friends & family. Book 28 in the series is a book featuring Diesel. I typically don't like the books he is in, but this was the best of them in my opinion. There was lots of humour, along with entertaining skips to be chased & cars to be exploded, but this book felt a little bland. The big bad felt like a cartoon villain - over the top & crazy - but this has been done before in other books in the series, Hard Eight being my favourite. I love the characters and will continue read this series, but, at 28+ books in the series, it feels like we may be getting to the end of the series.

Over-the-top, unrealistic characters & plot lines, and a whole lot of cars blowing up. Yep, this installment was mostly back to the typical Stephanie Plum story line . . . except there wasn't as much Morelli/Ranger (and also Diesel?) spice. But guessing from the previous book and the ending of this one, Stephanie is close to making some life changing decisions. Does that mean we'll finally see the end of this series?
We did get lots of Lulu at her most fabulous, and it was her lines that had me chuckling. Lulu and Grandma make this series. I also loved what her mom said about her knitting project when Stephanie asked her if she wouldn't rather knit a sweater or hat:

That would ruin it. It would have to be perfect. I'd have to think and count stitches. This way if I make a mistake, it's all part of the beauty of it. My thing isn't perfect because it's a reflection of life. Life isn't perfect. Besides, a sweater or a hat would come to an end. It would be done. My thing can go one for as long as I want. I could knit this forever.
This quote right here says it all.
Interesting that Diesel (& Wulf) popped back in. Wondering if she's planning another Diesel & Lizzy book. I, of course, also wonder if the tone of these books keeps changing because of ghost writers. Not that she couldn't still be typing away, but she is 80 and still churning out multiple books every year.
Love these quick reads! You always know what your getting into when u pick up a Stephanie Plum book!
